Which one of the following electrolytes is most effective for the coagulation of \[\text{Fe}{{\left( \text{OH} \right)}_{\text{3}}}\]Sol?

    A)                                 \[\text{NaCl}\]

    B) \[\text{N}{{\text{a}}_{\text{2}}}S{{O}_{\text{4}}}\]

    C) \[~\text{N}{{\text{a}}_{\text{3}}}\text{P}{{\text{O}}_{\text{4}}}\]

    D) \[\text{A}{{\text{S}}_{\text{2}}}{{\text{S}}_{\text{3}}}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

\[\text{Fe}{{\left( \text{OH} \right)}_{\text{3}}}\]is a positively charged sol. According to Hardy Schuize rule, greater the charge on an oppsitely charged ion of the electrolyte added, more effective it is in bringing about the coagulation. Hence, \[\text{N}{{\text{a}}_{\text{3}}}\text{P}{{\text{O}}_{\text{4}}}\] (containing \[PO_{4}^{3-}\]ions) is most effective.
