In Mollusca the osphraidium has function of

    A)                  reproduction

    B)                  respiration

    C)                  testing physical and chemical qualities of food

    D)                  excretion

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The sensory system is poorly developed in Mollusca due to more or less a sedentary life. It includes a pair of balancing organs called statocysts connected with pedal ganglia, a pair of dark yellow chemoreceptor patches called osphradia located upon visceral ganglia on ventral surface of posterior abductor muscle and scattered thigmoreceptors and chemoreceptor cells at free margin of mantle valves. Excretion is performed by a pair of kidney called organs of bojanus. Respiration takes place through gills or cteridium.
