    A)                  analogous

    B)  homologous

    C)                  vestigial

    D)  atavism

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The organs, which perform same function but these develop in totally different groups and are totally different in their basic structure and developmental origin are called analogous organs. On the other hand, the homologous organs have common origin and are built on the same fundamental pattern but perform varied functions. Vestigial or rudimentary organs are useless remnants of structures or organs, which might have been large and functional in the ancestors. Atavism or reversion is the reappearance of those ancestral characteristics in an organism, which do not occur normally or represent the reminiscent of normal structures possesed by the individual of other groups.
