                     Pollination is defined as the process of transfer of pollen grains, from an anther to the stigma of the same flower or of different flower. Pollination may be of 2 types (i) Self-pollination: When pollen grains are transferred to stigma of same flower. (ii) Cross-pollination: When pollen grains are transferred to stigma of different flower The cross pollination brought about by snails and slug is known as malacophily, eg, Diptera. The cross pollination which takes place by birds is called omithophily, eg, Grevillea, Bignonia etc. Anemophily is the type of cross pollination brought about by wind, eg, Typha, Date palm, Coconut. Entomophily is the type of cross pollination brought about by insects. About 80% pollination occurs by insects, eg, Salvia, Rosa, Papaver etc.
