    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Scurvy disease is caused due to deficiency of vitamin-C. The disease is characterised by spongy and bleeding gums, loose and falling teeth, fragility of blood vessels, bones and nervous breakdown. Besides playing an important role in certain metabolic reactions this vitamin activates an enzyme that is involved in synthesis of hydroxy proline which is an integral part of collagen. Vitamin-B (thiamine) is the vitamin extracted by Funk from rice bran. Thiamine deficiency impairs functioning of nervous system since it completely   depends   on   carbohydrate metabolism for energy. Vitamin-A deficiency causes xerophthalmia, nyctalopia (nightblindness). Vitamin-E is called antisterility vitamin.
