                     Of all the contagious diseases caused by Protozoa, malaria diseases are the most destructive for man. Quartan malaria is caused by Plasmodium. malariae which is characterised by reoccurrence of fever at interval of 72 hours. P. malariae has incubation period of 18-24 days. Tertain malaria is caused by Plasmodium vivax which is characterized by reoccurence of fever every third day, ie, after 48 hours. P. vivax has incubation period of 14 days. Ovale malaria is caused by Plasmodium ovale. P. ovale has incubation period of 14 days. Plasmodium falciparum causes malignant tertain malaria. This fever is often fatal to patient as it affects the brain. P. falciparum has incubation period of 12 days.
