Which one is related to urine concentration in mammals?

    A)                  Testosterone hormone

    B)                  Antidiuretic hormone

    C)                  Oxytocin hormone

    D)                  All of the above

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Antidiuretic hormone (ADH or vasopressin) is a hormone produced by hypothalamic neurosecretory cells and released into posterior pituitary circulation. It has marked vasoconstrictor effects on arterioles raising blood   pressure   and   increases   water permeability of collecting ducts and distal convoluted tubules to the 10-20% of the initial glomerular filtrate, resulting in water retention. It acts via c-AMP; its release is inhibited by alcohol, which therefore stimulates urine production, its concentration in blood depends on the rate of urine production and is zero when urine production is at its maximum rate. Oxytocm is a hormone, released by the pituitary gland, that causes increased contraction of the womb during labor and stimulates the ejection of milk from the breasts. Testosterone produced largely by the Leydig cell of the testes, promotes protein synthesis, sexual behaviour and spermateliosis.
