    ECG is a measure of

    A)                  rate of heart beat

    B)                  difference in electric potential

    C)                  volume of blood pumped

    D)                  ventricular contraction

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

ECG (Electro Cardio Gram) is a device used to record the electric activity of the heart to detect abnormal electric impulses through the muscle. It allows diagnosis of cardiac abnormalities. In normal heartbeat, 3 successive electrical pulses are recorded. First, there is an atrial excitation caused by the depolarization associated with aterial contraction (P-wave). After this, there is much stronger ventricular excitation, reflecting both the depolarization of the ventricles and the relation of the atria (QRS-wave). Finally, after 0.2 second, there is a third wave caused by the relaxation of the ventricles (T-wave).
