  • question_answer
In two separate bulbs containing ideal gases A and B respectively, the density of gas A is twice of that of gas B while mol. wt. of gas A is half of that of gas B at the same temperature, pressure. \[\frac{{{P}_{A}}}{{{p}_{B}}}\] will be

    A)  1

    B)  4

    C)  \[\frac{1}{4}\]

    D)  \[\frac{1}{2}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Key Idea             According to ideal gas equation                                 \[pV=nRT\]                                 \[pV=\frac{W}{M}RT\]                                 \[pM=\frac{W}{V}RT\]                 \[pM=dRT\left( Density=\frac{mass}{valume} \right)\] Here, the density of gas A is twice of that of gas B and mol. wt. of gas A is half of that of gas B. From the equation                 \[pM=dRT\]                 \[p\propto \frac{d}{M}\]                 \[\frac{{{p}_{A}}}{{{p}_{B}}}=\frac{{{d}_{A}}}{{{d}_{B}}}\times \frac{{{M}_{B}}}{{{M}_{A}}}=\frac{2d}{d}\times \frac{M}{M/2}\]                 \[\frac{{{p}_{A}}}{{{p}_{B}}}=4\]
