    Plant viruses contain

    A)  DNA

    B)  RNA

    C)  Both (a) and (b)

    D)  Plasmids

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Viruses are non cellular, submicroscopic obligate parasitic entities composed of proteinaceous covering around central nucleic acid and self replicating within the living host cells. Plant viruses mainly contain RNA as their genetic material except Cauliflower Mosaic Virus (CMV) and Dahlia Mosaic Virus (DMV), both of these contain DNA as their genetic material. Most animal viruses like herpes virus, pox virus human adenovirus and parvovirus containing DNA as their genetic material. Bacteriophage may either contain DNA or RNA, never both as their genetic material. Plasmid is a structure in bacterial cell consisting of DNA that can exist and replicate independently of the chromosomes. Plasmids provide genetic instruction for certain cell activities.
