In Hydra, the beaded processes of sensory cells make synapsis with the process of

    A)  nerve cell

    B)  epithelio muscular cell

    C)  Both (a) and (b)

    D)  None of the above

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Nerve cells (ganglionic cells or neurons) occur in deeper zone of epidermis. Their branched processes are not differentiated into afferent and efferent fibre and are intermingled to form the nerve net or plexus. They are responsible for transmitting impulse. The neuro secretory substance presumbly serves as a chemical transmitter of impulse from one neuron to the other establishing synaptic connection. Epithelio Muscular Cells are roughly cuboidal but their apical or distal part towards body surface is broader, while the basal or proximal parts towards mesogloea are narrow. They are interconnected at places by desmosomal junction. They are multifunctional in nature.
