Substance related with phototropism in shoot is

    A)  ethanol

    B)  cytokinins

    C)  auxin

    D)  gibberellins

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Auxins relation with phototropism was proved by performing Avena curvature test. It shows that amount of curvature is proportional to concentration of hormone in agar-block and that concentration of auxin is more towards non-illuminated as compared to illuminated side. Ethanol (ethyl alcohol) is a colourless water soluble alcohol. It is the active intoxicating drink. It is produced by fermentation of sugar using yeast.                 \[{{C}_{6}}{{H}_{12}}{{O}_{6}}\xrightarrow{{}}2{{C}_{2}}{{H}_{5}}OH+2C{{O}_{2}}\] Cytokinins are defined as compounds having highly specific hydrophilic group or adenine and one non-specific lipophilic group. The first natural cytokinin of plants was identified as zeatin by Letham et al, (1964). Gibberellins are weakly acidic plant growth hormones, which possess a gibbane ring structure and are able to bring about elongation of both-leaves and stem in general and internodal length of genetically dwarf plant. The hormone was discovered by Yabuta and Sumiki.
