                     In Funaria, the haploid structure is protonema which is a filamentous and green structure. Rhizoides develop downwardly on the branches of protonema to fix it on the substratum. It bears buds, which develop into gametophytic plant. Capsule is sporophytic (2n) in nature. It is mostly pear shaped and chlorophyllous. It consists of three partsapophysis, theca and operculum. Columella is part of theca proper. It is central pith like cylindrical portion of theca composed of parenchymatous cells. The columella provides water and nutrients required for the development of spore in spore sac. Seta is an Sporophytic (2n) in nature. It is a long, slender, tough, stalk like structure bearing  foot at its base and the capsule at the apex.
