    Selaginella does not show

    A)  protostele

    B)  microphyllous leaves

    C)  precocious germination

    D)  circinate venation

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Selaginella is commonly known as spike moss or small dub moss. Leaves of Selaginella are microphyllous (with simple leaves, which do not form a leaf gap in the stem stele), sessile and simple. Their shape varies from ovate to lanceolate and the stele is protostele (the central cylinder consisting of xylem, phloem, pericycle and sometimes medullary rays as well as pith) and precocious germination. Circulate venation is absent in Selaginella.
