Polygenic concept of inheritance was first experimentally shown by

    A)  Malthus (1828)

    B)  Gabon (1883)

    C)   Nilson Ehle

    D)  None of the above

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Polygenic inheritance/quantitative inheritance is that type of inheritance, in which the complete expression of a trait is controlled by two or more genes, in which a dominant allele of each gene contributes only a unit fraction of the trait and the total phenotypic expression is the sum total/additive/cumulative effect of all the dominant alleles of genes/polygenes. The first scientific study of quantitative/polygenic inheritance was carried out by Nilson-Ehle (1908) on colour in wheat. Malthus (1828) gave theory of natural selection. He expressed evolutionary ideas in an essay titled ?On the tendency of varieties to depart indefinitely from original types.? Galton (1883) coined the term Eugenesis. It is the branch of study concerned with improvement of human race by application of principles of genetics, ie, by controlling heredity of genetic traits and thus improving human genotype and gene pool. He is known as the ?Father of Eugenics?.
