Cell wall present in water conducting tissues, represented by swollen nodules is known as

    A)  tertiary wall

    B)  middle lamella

    C)  plasmalemma

    D)  primary cell wall

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

A tertiary wall develops on the inner side of  the secondary wall particularly in tracheiry element (water conducting tissue). It is supposed to be composed of hemicellulose xylone. Middle lamella is present between two primary walls and it connects the two adjacent cells. It is optically inactive and colloidal in nature and is composed of pectic compounds such as calcium and magnesium pectate, which can be disolved in strong acids. Plasmalemma was discovered by Plowe (1931). It is the outer cell membrane, which forms the external boundary of many protists, some monerans and animal cell. Also known as plasma membrane. Primary cell wall is the first wall layer formed inside the middle lamella by a growing or elongating cell. It is composed of cellulose, hemicellulose, polysaccharides and many other pectic substances.
