The number of stomata present per \[c{{m}^{2}}\]of a leaf is

    A)  1000

    B)  less than 100

    C)  one million

    D)  None of these

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Stomata are tiny pores complex found in the epidermis of leaves and other soft aerial parts. The size of stomata is 10-14 \[\mu \,m\] in length and 3-12 um in breadth. The number of stomata per \[c{{m}^{2}}\] of leaf surface varies from 1000-60,000 or 10-600/\[m{{m}^{2}}\]. In mesophytic plants, stomata occur on both the surface and their number is roughly equal on both the surfaces in grasses and monocots. They are meant for gaseous exchange but are also main source of transpiration.
