    A)                  pituitary gland

    B)                  adrenal gland

    C)                  Graafian follicle

    D)                  placenta

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Estrogen is secreted by Graafian follicle cells under the stimulation of follicle-stimulating hormone or gametokinetic factor. Estrogen promotes growth and development of female reproductive system, female breasts and female secondary sexual characters. Pituitary gland is also known as master gland, as most of its hormones control the activity levels of endocrine glands. It secretes growth hormone, thyroid stimulating hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone, prolactin, follicle stimulating hormone, leuteinizing hormone, antidiuretic hormone (ADH or vasopressin) and oxytocin. Adrenal gland or suprarenal gland secretes cortisol (a steroid and performs multiple metabolic functions), aldosterone (steriod, increases renal sodium reabsorption, potassium secretion and hydrogen ion secretion), epinephrine and nor-epinephrine (amine). Placenta secretes two steroid hormones -Estrogen and progesteron in small amount and protein hormone-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG), which promotes growth of corpus luteum and secretion of estrogen and progesteron by corpus luteum and human somatotropin, which probably helps to promote development of some foetal tissues as well as mothers breast.
