                     Mycorrhiza is a mutually beneficial association between a fungus and the root of higher plants. The fungus absorbs water, salts and protects the plant from soil borne pathogens. In return, it gets shelter and nourishment from the plant. It is of two type: (i) Ectomycorrhiza are very common in nature on pines, (Pinus) oaks (Querns), lickorice and beech. (ii) Endomycorrhiza occur in red maple and are common in roots and other tissues of many orchids and member of family- Ericaceae.
