    D)                  Retinol

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is water soluble vitamin. Therefore, it cant be stored inside the human body. It is essential for activating the enzyme proryl hydroxylase, which promotes the hydroxylation step in formation of hydroxy proline, an integral constituent of collagen and is thus, essential for the growth and strength of the fibres in subcutaneous tissue, cartilage bone and teeth. Calciferol (vitamin D) is a fat soluble vitamin. It increases calcium absorption from the gastrointestinal tract and helps to control calcium deposition in the bone. Sufficient amount of vitamin D can be stored in liver to prevent deficiency for 3 to 4 month. Vitamin K is necessary for the formation of prothrombin, factor VIII, factor IX and factor X by the liver. All of these factors are important in blood coagulation. It is synthesized by bacteria in colon. Vitamin A (Retinol) can be synthesized and stored inside the body. This vitamin occurs in animal tissues. It does not occur in foods of vegetable origin, vitamin-A is stored in greatest quantity in liver.
