Which of the following vitamins is used in electron transport system?

    A)                  Calciferol

    B)                  Thiamine

    C)                  Riboflavin

    D)                  Ascorbic acid

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Flavoproteins are enzymes that catalyse oxidation-reduction reaction and either flavin mononucleotide or flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) act as coenzyme. These coenzymes are derived from the vitamin riboflavin. Calciferol (vitamin D) serves as hormone precursor. Thiamine (vitamin \[{{B}_{1}}\]): Thiamine pyropho phate a coenzyme is derived from it. It plays important role in cleavage of bonds adjacent to a carbonyl group, such as the decarboxylation of a-keto acids and chemical arrangement, in which an activated aldehyde group is transferred from one carbon atom to another. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is required for oxidation of amino acids.
