The major organic product in the reaction, \[C{{H}_{3}}-O-CH{{(C{{H}_{3}})}_{2}}+HI\to \] Product is:

    A)                  \[C{{H}_{3}}OH+{{(C{{H}_{3}})}_{2}}CHI\]

    B)                  \[IC{{H}_{2}}OCH{{(C{{H}_{3}})}_{2}}\]

    C)                  \[C{{H}_{3}}O\,\,\underset{\begin{smallmatrix}  | \\  I \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{C}}\,{{(C{{H}_{3}})}_{2}}\]

    D)                  \[C{{H}_{3}}I+{{(C{{H}_{3}})}_{2}}CHOH\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

In case of unsymmertical ether, the alkyl halide is always formed from smaller alkyl group. This happen so, because  \[{{I}^{-}}\] ion being larger in size approaches smaller alkyl group to avoid steric hindrance.
