A mutant strain of \[{{T}_{4}}\]-bacteriophage R-ll, fails to lyse die E. coil but when two strains \[R-I{{I}^{x}}\]  and \[R-I{{I}^{y}}\] are mixed then they lyse the E. coli. What may be the possible reason?

    A)                                                                                                                                                                                            Bacteriophage transforms in wild

    B)                 It is not mutated

    C)                 Both strains have similar cistrons

    D)                 Both strains have different cistrons

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

The enzymes required for lysing E. coli could not be synthesized by the mutant strain. Two different strains had cistrons for synthesizing two different enzymes which acted together.
