  • question_answer
Among the metals Fe, Zn, Pb, Ag and Pt, which do not give a metal nitrate on treatment with concentrated\[(Give\,that\,{{E}^{0}}_{cell}=1.05V)\]?

    A) Fe and Pt

    B) Fe and Zn

    C) Fe, Ag and Pt

    D) Pb, Ag and Pt

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

When iron is treated with cone. \[HN{{O}_{3}},\]it becomes passive because of the formation of a protective layer of \[\text{FeO}\bullet \text{F}{{\text{e}}_{\text{2}}}{{\text{O}}_{\text{3}}}\]on the surface. On the other hand, Pt being a noble metal does not react with conc.\[\text{HN}{{\text{O}}_{\text{3}}}\].
