Assertion  (A) Forces  acting  between proton-proton\[{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\], proton-neutron \[{{S}_{N}}1\] and neutron-neutron  \[benzyl>allyl>{{1}^{\circ }}>{{2}^{\circ }}>{{3}^{\circ }}>Me\]  are  such  that \[Me>{{1}^{\circ }}>{{2}^{\circ }}>{{3}^{\circ }}>allyl>benzyl\] Reason (R) Electrostatic force of repulsion between two protons reduces net nuclear forces between them. Each of these questions contains two statements. Assertion and Reason. Each of these questions also has four alternative choices, only one of-which is the correct answer. You have to select one of the codes (a), (b), (c) and (d) given below.

    A) If both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is correct explanation of Assertion.

    B) If both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion.

    C) If Assertion is true but Reason is false.

    D) If both Assertion and Reason are false.

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The net force between two nucleons is equal to the algebraic sum of the nuclear and electrostatic forces  acting  between  them.   Between proton-neutron and neutron-neutron, only the nuclear force of attraction act. But between proton-proton, apart from the nuclear force, electrostatic force of repulsion also acts. This tends to reduce the net force between the two protons.
