    Assertion (A) Secondary growth in dicot roots occur with the help of vascular cambium and phellogen. Reason (R) Vascular cambium is formed from conjuctive parenchyma and part of pericycle. Each of these questions contains two statements. Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Each of these questions also has four alternative choices, only one of which is the correct answer. You have to select one of the codes (a), (b), (c) and (d) given below.

    A) If both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is correct explanation of Assertion.

    B) if both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion.

    C) If Assertion is true but Reason is false.

    D) If both Assertion and Reason are false.

    Solution :

    Both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion. Secondary growth occurs at the lateral meristems, namely the vascular cambium and cork cambium (phellogen). The former forms secondary xylem and secondary phloem, while the latter forms the periderms.
