Which one of the following is essential for photolysis of water?

    A) Manganese

    B) Zinc

    C) Copper

    D) Boron

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Photolysis of water requires light energy and\[{{O}_{2}}\] evolving complex (OEC) and an electron carrier \[{{Y}_{z}}\]. OEC complex was formerly called z -enzyme. It has four Mn ions. Light energy brings about changes in Mn which helps in removing electrons from \[O{{H}^{-}}\] component of water forming oxygen. Liberation of \[{{O}_{2}}\] also requires \[C{{l}^{-}}\]and \[C{{l}^{2+}}\].
