Assertion (A) Sodium reacts with oxygen to form \[\frac{12}{7}A\] but potassium reacts with oxygen to form\[1A\]. Reason (R) Potassium is more reactive metal than sodium. Each of these questions contains two statements. Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Each of these questions also has four alternative choices, only one of which is the correct answer. You have to select one of the codes (a), (b), (c) and (d) given below.

    A) If both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is correct explanation of Assertion.

    B) If both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion.

    C) If Assertion is true but Reason is false.

    D) If both Assertion and Reason are false.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

It is because of bigger size of\[{{K}^{+}}\] than \[N{{a}^{+}}\], a weak positive field arises around it which cannot prevent peroxide ion \[(O_{2}^{2-})\]to combine with another oxygen atom to form superoxide, \[O_{2}^{-}\].
