Assertion When height of a tube is less than liquid rise in the capillary tube, the liquid does not over flow. Reason Product of radius of meniscus and height of liquid in capillary tube always remains constant. In each of the flowing questions, two statements are given. One is portion and the other is reason. Examine the statement carefully and mark the correct answer according to the instruction given below

    A) If both the assertion and reason are true and reason explains the assertion.

    B) If both the assertion and reason are true but reason does not explain the assertion.

    C) If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D) If assertion is false but reason is true.

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

\[h=\frac{T}{Rdg}\Rightarrow hR=\frac{2T}{dg}\] \[\therefore \]  \[\text{hR}\]= constant Hence, when the tube is of insufficient length, of curcature ratius of the liquid meniscus increases, So, as to maintain the product hR a finite constant. i.e. as h decrease, R increase and the liquid meniscus became more and more flat, but the liquid does not over flow.
