Assertion In a stationary wave, there is no transfer of energy. Reason There is no outward motion of the disturbance from one particle to adjoining particle in a stationary wave. In each of the flowing questions, two statements are given. One is portion and the other is reason. Examine the statement carefully and mark the correct answer according to the instruction given below

    A) If both the assertion and reason are true and reason explains the assertion.

    B) If both the assertion and reason are true but reason does not explain the assertion.

    C) If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D) If assertion is false but reason is true.

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

In stationary wave, total energy associated with it is twice the energy of each of incidence are reflected wave. Large amount of energy are stored equally in standing waves and become trapped with the waves. Hence, there is no transmission of energy through the wave.
