Assertion The ratio of inertial mass to gravitational mass is equal to one. Reason The inertial mass and gravitational mass of a body are equivalent. In each of the flowing questions, two statements are given. One is portion and the other is reason. Examine the statement carefully and mark the correct answer according to the instruction given below

    A) If both the assertion and reason are true and reason explains the assertion.

    B) If both the assertion and reason are true but reason does not explain the assertion.

    C) If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D) If assertion is false but reason is true.

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Inertial mass and gravitational mass are equivalent. Both are scalar quantities and measured in the same unit. They are quite different in the method of their measurement. Also gravitational mass of a body is affected by the presence of other bodies near it where as internal mass remain unaffected.
