Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion Though large number of free electrons is present in the metal. Yet there is no current in the absence of electric field. Reason In the absence of electric field electrons move randamly in all directions.

    A)  If both Assertion and Reason are true and the Reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion.

    B)  If both Assertion and Reason are true but the Reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion.

    C)  If Assertion is true but Reason is false.

    D)  If both Assertion and Reason are false.

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Free electrons present in the metal are moving randamly in all directions, in the absence of electric field. Hence, the average velocity of electron is zero. Because of if the current does not flow in the metal in the absence of electric field.
