Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion Torque on the coil is the maximum, when coil is suspended in a radial magnetic field. Reason The torque tends to rotate the coil on its own axis.

    A)  if both Assertion and Reason are true and the Reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion

    B)  if both Assertion and Reason are true but the Reason is nor the correct explanation of the Assertion

    C)  if Assertion is true but Reason is false

    D)  if Assertion and Reason are false

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The torque on the coil in a magnetic field is given by \[\tau =nIBA\,\cos \theta \] For radial field, the coil is set with its plane parallel to the direction of the magnetic field B, then      \[\theta ={{0}^{o}}\]  and    \[\cos {{0}^{o}}=1\] Torque \[=nIBA(1)\] =nIBA         (maximum)
