Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: Balmer series lies in the visible region of electromagnetic spectrum. Reason: \[v{{\left( \frac{4}{3} \right)}^{1/2}}\]where n=3,4,5

    A)  If both Assertion and Reason are true and the Reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion.

    B)  If both Assertion and Reason are true but the Reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion.

    C)  If Assertion is true but Reason is false.

    D)  If both Assertion and Reason are false.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    The wavelength in Balmer series is given by \[{{\left[ \frac{2G}{r}({{m}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}) \right]}^{1/2}}\]           \[{{\left[ \frac{r}{2G({{m}_{1}}{{m}_{2}})} \right]}^{1/2}}\] \[{{\left[ \frac{2G}{r}{{m}_{1}}{{m}_{2}} \right]}^{1/2}}\] \[(\Delta l)\] and \[\frac{1}{{{\lambda }_{\min }}}=R\left[ \frac{1}{{{2}^{2}}}\,-\frac{1}{{{\infty }^{2}}} \right]\] \[{{\lambda }_{\min }}\,=\frac{4}{R}\,=\frac{4}{1.097\,\times {{10}^{7}}}=3646\,\overset{\text{o}}{\mathop{\text{A}}}\,\] The wavelength \[6563\,\overset{\text{o}}{\mathop{\text{A}}}\,\] and \[3646\,\overset{\text{o}}{\mathop{\text{A}}}\,\] lie in visible region. Therefore, Balmer series lies in visible region.
