    Solution :

    In smaller organisms, the rate of metabolism is higher in comparison to adult one. For example the average heart rate per minute in new born baby is 130, while in 75 years and above aged persons it is only 75. Hence, both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
