Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: \[n=2\] is more stable than \[{{E}_{2}}=E_{cell}^{o}-\frac{0.0591}{2}\log \frac{[Z{{n}^{2+}}]}{[C{{u}^{2+}}]}\]. Reason: \[=E_{cell}^{o}-\frac{0.0591}{2}\log \frac{1}{0.01}\] is powerful oxidising agent.

    A)  If both Assertion and Reason are true and the Reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion

    B)  If both Assertion and Reason are true but the reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion

    C)  If Assertion is true but Reason is false

    D)  If both Assertion and Reason are false

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

\[{{S}_{8}}\] is more stable than \[{{105}^{o}}\]due to inert pair effect. Due to this reason \[{{S}_{8}}\] decomposes very readily into \[{{[Al{{({{H}_{2}}O)}_{6}}]}^{3+}}\] and \[{{[Mg{{({{H}_{2}}O)}_{6}}]}^{2+}}.\]. \[{{[Al{{({{H}_{2}}O)}_{6}}]}^{3+}}\] \[{{[Mg{{({{H}_{2}}O)}_{6}}]}^{2+}}\] \[=\frac{Molecular\,weight}{Acidity}\] Thus, \[2N{{H}_{3}}(g)\xrightarrow{{}}{{N}_{2}}(g)+3{{H}_{2}}(g);\]salts are better oxidising agents.
