Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: Friedel-Crafts reaction is used to introduce an alkyl or acyl group in benzene nucleus. Reason: Benzene is a solvent for the Friedel-Crafts alkylation of bromobenzene.

    A)  If both Assertion and Reason are true and the Reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion

    B)  If both Assertion and Reason are true but the reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion

    C)  If Assertion is true but Reason is false

    D)  If both Assertion and Reason are false

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

During alkylation of bromobenzene, if benzene is used as solvent, alkylation of benzene will take place because benzene is more reactive for \[{{S}_{E}}\] reactions than bromobenzene, so benzene is not used as a solvent for this reaction.
