Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: \[[C{{u}^{2+}}]=1.0M\] is a stronger acid than \[n=2\] Reason:  Size of \[{{E}_{1}}=E_{cell}^{o}-\frac{0.0591}{2}\log \frac{[Z{{n}^{2+}}]}{[C{{u}^{2+}}]}\] is smaller than \[{{E}_{1}}=E_{cell}^{o}-\frac{0.0591}{2}\log \frac{0.01}{1}\] and possesses more effective nuclear charge.

    A)  If both Assertion and Reason are true and the Reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion

    B)  If both Assertion and Reason are true but the reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion

    C)  If Assertion is true but Reason is false

    D)  If both Assertion and Reason are false

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The size of \[[{{K}_{sp}}\,BaS{{O}_{4}}={{10}^{-11}},{{K}_{sp}}CaS{{O}_{4}}={{10}^{-6}},\] is smaller than \[{{K}_{sp}}\,A{{g}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}={{10}^{-5}}]\]Also the former possesses more effective nuclear charge and thus, attracts elecron pair from donor more effectively. This gives rise to relatively strong acidic nature of     \[A{{g}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\]
