Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion:  \[S{{b}_{2}}{{S}_{3}}\] is not soluble in yellow ammonium sulphide. Reason: The common ion effect due to \[{{S}^{2-}}\] ions reduces the solubility of \[S{{b}_{2}}{{S}_{3}}\]

    A)  If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

    B)  If both assertion and reason are true but the reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

    C)  If assertion is true statement but reason is false.

    D)  If both assertion and reason are false.

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Antimony trisulphide \[S{{b}_{2}}{{S}_{3}}\]; is soluble in yellow  ammonium  sulphide  forming ammonim thioantimonate. \[S{{b}_{2}}{{S}_{3}}+\underset{\begin{smallmatrix}  Amm. \\  sulphide \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{3{{(N{{H}_{4}})}_{2}}S+}}\,2S\xrightarrow{{}}\underset{\begin{smallmatrix}  Ammonium\,thio \\  antimonate \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{2{{(N{{H}_{4}})}_{3}}Sb{{S}_{4}}}}\,\] The common ion effect due to \[{{S}^{2-}}\] ion does not reduces the solubility of\[S{{b}_{3}}{{S}_{3}}\]. So both the statements are false.
