Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: Water in liquid state is more stable than ice at room temperature. Reason: Water in liquid form has higher entropy than ice.

    A)  If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

    B)  If both assertion and reason are true but the reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

    C)  If assertion is true statement but reason is false.

    D)  If both assertion and reason are false.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Water in liquid state is more stable than ice at room temperature because water is, more dense/than ice. Ice has a honey combed structure   with   hexagonal   channels. Relatively small density of ice is due to these holes. It is also true that water in liquid form has high entropy than ice. So both the statements are true but not correct explanation.
