Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: Silicones are hydrophobic in nature. Reason: \[Si-O-Si\] linkages are moisture sensitive.

    A)  If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

    B)  If both assertion and reason are true but the reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

    C)  If assertion is true statement but reason is false.

    D)  If both assertion and reason are false.

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Silicons are insoluble in water and does not react with it. So they are hydrophobic in nature. The crystal structure of silica has \[Si-O-Si\] linkage and it is extremely stable and, considerable energy is required to break the silicon oxygen bonds in it. So silicons are hard and have high melting point. Thus, the reason is false but  ssertion is true.
