  • question_answer
An aqueous solution of \[CoC{{l}_{2}}\] on addition of excess of concentrated \[HCl\] turns blue due to formation of:

    A) \[[Co{{({{H}_{2}}O)}_{4}}C{{l}_{2}}]\]

    B) \[{{[Co{{({{H}_{2}}O)}_{2}}C{{l}_{4}}]}^{2-}}\]

    C) \[{{[CoC{{l}_{4}}]}^{2-}}\]

    D)        \[[Co{{({{H}_{2}}O)}_{2}}C{{l}_{2}}]\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

\[CoC{{l}_{2}}\] is weak Lewis. It reacts with chloride ion to produce salt containing the tetrahedral \[{{[CoC{{l}_{4}}]}^{2-}}\] ion which is blue in colour. The oxidation state of \[Co\] is \[+2\].
