Which of the following functions represents a simple harmonic oscillation?

    A) \[B=\frac{normal\,stress}{volume\,strain}\]

    B)       \[B=-\frac{\Delta P}{\Delta V/V}\]

    C)       \[B\propto \frac{1}{\frac{\Delta V}{V}}\]

    D)       \[\Rightarrow \]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Key Idea: One of the conditions for SHM is that restoring force (F) and hence acceleration (A) should be proportional to displacement (y). Let,     \[\mu \alpha n\] \[\mu \alpha 1/n\] \[\mu \alpha {{n}^{2}}\] or   \[\mu \alpha 1/{{n}^{2}}\] \[Z\alpha r\] \[Z\alpha 1/r\]    \[Z\alpha 1/{{r}^{2}}\] This satisfies the condition of SHM. Other equations do not satisfy this condition.
