Schottky defect defines imperfection in the lattice structure of a:

    A)  gas

    B)         plasma

    C)                        liquid

    D)         solid

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Schottky defect defines imperfection in the lattice structure of ionic solids. This defect is created when one positive ion and one negative ion are missing from their respective positions to create a pair of holes. Other defects of solids are Interstitial defect (due to presence of ions in interstitial spaces) and Frenkel defect (when only one ion leaves its correct lattice and occupy interstitial space).
