Directions for: The questions consist of two statements each, printed as assertion and reason. While answering these questions you are required to choose any one of the following five responses A. If both the Assertion and the Reason are true and the Reason is a correct explanation of the Assertion. B. If both the Assertion and the Reason are true but the Reason is not a correct explanation of Assertion. C. If the Assertion is true but the Reason is false. D. If both the Assertion and the Reason are false. E. If Assertion is false but Reason is true.

Assertion: If three capacitors of capacitances \[\alpha =\frac{\Delta {{i}_{C}}}{\Delta {{i}_{g}}}\] are connected in parallel then their equivalent capacitance \[\Delta {{i}_{C}}\] Reason: \[\Delta {{i}_{g}}\]

    A)  A

    B)                        B

    C)  C

    D)  D

    E)  E

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Equivalent   capacitance   of   capacitor connected in parallel is \[{{C}_{P}}={{C}_{1}}+{{C}_{2}}+{{C}_{3}}\] Hence, their equivalent capacitance is greater than individual capacitances. As given in reason, the given relation is true for series combination of capacitors, i.e., \[\frac{1}{{{C}_{S}}}=\frac{1}{{{C}_{1}}}+\frac{1}{{{C}_{2}}}+\frac{1}{{{C}_{3}}}\]
