Anaerobic respiration, after glycolysis is also called as:

    A) fermentation

    B) fragmentation

    C)       restoration

    D)        multiplication

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Anaerobic respiration after glycolysis is called fermentation. In this process, the end products are ethyl alcohol and \[C{{O}_{2}}\]. \[{{C}_{6}}{{H}_{12}}{{O}_{6}}\to 2{{C}_{2}}{{H}_{5}}OH+2C{{O}_{2}}\] This process takes place into two steps: (i) Decarboxylation of pyruvic acid into acetaldehyde releasing \[C{{O}_{2}}\] in the presence of pyruvic acid decarboxylase enzyme. (ii) Reduction of acetaldehyde into alcohol and conversion of \[NADH+{{H}^{+}}\] to \[NA{{D}^{+}}\] in the presence of alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme.
