Ploidy of ovum of angiosperms is:

    A) haploid

    B) diploid

    C) triploid

    D)        polyploid

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The ovum or egg is found in embryo sac (or female gametophyte). It is formed from haploid functional megaspore cell after mitosis I division. Thus, ovum is a haploid structure i.e., it contains only single set of chromosomes. Functional megaspore cell, itself, is formed a diploid megaspore mother cell after meiosis division in them.
