Bud dormancy can be induced by:

    A) IAA

    B)       GA

    C)       ABA

    D)        Ethylene

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Bud dormancy can be induced by ABA. The endogenous level of ABA increases with the onset of dormant period and decreases when it is broken. IAA (Indole Acetic Acid) is a naturally occurring auxin hormone. It suppresses the growth of lateral buds and plays a major role in the cell elongation, binding of stem towards the light side. Gibberellin hormone takes part in the stem elongation in leaves and stems. Parthenocarpy in fruits and in breaking of seed dormancy. Ethylene is a gaseous hormone. It plays a key role in abscission of leaves, flowers and fruits. It also hastens the ripening of fruits.
