A chromosome with centromere at one end is called:

    A) telocentric

    B)       metacentric

    C)       excentric

    D)        apocentric

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Chromosomes are of following types on the basis of position of centromere on them i. Telocentric: Centromere occurs at one end. These chromosomes look like T shaped during anaphase. ii. Acrocentric: Centromere is subterminal. These chromosomes look like shaped during anaphase. iii. Sub-metacentric: Centromere is sub-median, this forms two arms of chromosome in which one is slighly larger than the other. These chromosomes look like L shaped during anaphase. iv. Metacentric: Centromere occurs at the centre thus, such chromosomes contain two equal arms. At anaphase they look like V shaped. v. Acentric: When chromosomes do not contain centromere. These are of rare occurrence.
