Curling of tendrils is due to:

    A)  thigmotropism

    B)  phototropism

    C)        chemotrophism

    D)        nyctinasty

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Curling of tendrils is due to thigmotropism. Growth of tendril is unequal. The side in contact with support material has less growth while other side has more growth. This results in coiling of tendril around support. The binding of stem due to light stimulus, towards the light source is called phototropism. Chemotropism is the curvature or movement of plant towards the source of chemical. Nyctinasty or sleep movement is due to response of plant to periodic alteration of day and night, e.g., Opening and closing of many flowers.
